barcode data collection scenario at present:
|
| Barcode data very often
needs to be collected on the “go”,
with on-line connectivity and graphical interface.
This mobile data collection is achieved normally
through Win CE terminals such as Unitech PA
series with costing of about USD 8001000.
On the other end are Unitech devices for USD
200-300 such as PT630 and HT580, which work
in the batch mode, have no graphical displays
and with limited database capabilities. While
these are excellent ways to collect data,
there is also a large market for devices,
which require a much lower cost and functionality
of Win CE devices. |

| Enter low cost
mobile phones |
Everybody has mobile
phones and at a minimum, they can SMS data
in addition to supporting voice. They can
also store data in memory where up to 1GB
is possible. They start at USD 150 for basic
models, which have blue tooth capability,
can support java programming and GPRS. At
USD 250 mobiles also support Wifi.
Blue-tooth barcode readers such as HT 580
are available for less than USD200. They can
send & receive data to normal mobiles
using blue-tooth. The data can be stored inside
the mobile or further transmitted using SMS,
WiFi or GPRS (Email or online web verification).
The data can also be easily processed in the
mobile phone as they are fully programmable
using java tools |

The HT660 is a ruggedly
designed, feature-rich, mobile computer ideally
suited for manufacturing, retail, transportation
and logistics sectors. Reliable enough to
capture data in harsh environments, the HT660
is IP54 rated and can withstand 1.5M drops
to a concrete floor. Weighing in at just 360
grams, the HT660 is equipped with a high-contrast
color touch screen, 36 alphanumeric keys,
and ergonomic rubber grips for comfort. For
scan intensive applications, the 12-hour battery
ensures no scanning downtime. Data is also
secured with a 72-hour backup battery.
The HT660 comes standard with Microsoft Windows
CE 5.0 Professional Operating System, integrated
1D laser scanner, Bluetooth enabled, and an
SD card slot. Optional WiFi models (802.11b/g),
charging/communication cradle, and gun grip
are also available.
